How a Slower Routine Can Unlock Creativity My Artist’s Journey
I made this video predominantly for me, to remind myself to stop reverting to my default mode of being a workaholic. But if you’re an artist that’s hustling, busy, exhausted….then I think this would be good for you to hear too.
My dad was a workaholic (now retired). He loved his work. And I see the same traits in myself and my brother too.
They say “find a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life”. But the truth is, find a job you love and you’ll work every single day for the rest of your life. It can be a blessing and a curse.
And after 6 years of restricted diets and spending thousands trying to improve my health, I realised that no matter how hard I worked on my physical body, if I wasn’t resting my mind and reducing stress, I would never get better.
So I made a shift. And it has been SO lovely. The flow on effect on my creative work has been rather profound too.
Is my default mode still to wake up and start working first thing in the morning and only stop to pee and eat? Yes. But the more I fight it, the easier it gets to hold onto my new found homeostasis of slowing down.
So if you’re an artist who is hustling, who is busy and working 9-5, 7 days a week like I was, then this video isn’t just for me. It is for you too.
