ABOUT THE ARTWORK:
This little galah was a superstar. Every bird I work with is different. I only work with flighted birds so they always have the choice whether they want to participate in my photoshoot or not. They can fly away at will at anytime. Sometimes birds may take 30min to an hour to become at ease with my presence. Sometimes they take twice as long to deem the objects I bring as “safe” and “okay to approach.” And sometimes they throw everything off the table! But this little galah was a superstar. He sat atop the teapot, had a brief look and then proceeded to offer me pose after pose, as if he was a seasoned model offering me different angles and body shapes. The original painting of the galah on antique copper teapot was selected as the winner of the Doyles still life prize for 2022.
